Well, before we get started, there is one important thing to mention about Berlin Street Kebabs, on Midland Road… It’s certainly not your “end of the night” style kebab shop.

The Berlin Street Vibe

From the moment you walk in, you can tell the owners have made a real effort to make the shop stand out. It’s clean, contemporary and well finished. There are no posters sellopated to the walls or roof tiles falling down. Instead, there are clean while tiles, clean tables and faux gold cutlery on the tables. It looks more like something out of a next catalogue than a horror movie (can you tell, we aren’t bit fans of run down kebab shops).

The Berlin Street Menu

The menu at Berlin Street, Bedford also isn’t your usual kebab shop menu and extends beyond doner meat. We went for an “Alman”, which is lamb’s meat, salad, feta cheese, sumac, chilli flakes, lemon juice, pomegranate juice, chilli and garlic sauce wrapped in a lightly toasted bread pouch.

It was full of flavour and absolutely enormous, we struggled to finish it. Oh course, the side of lightly seasoned chips didn’t help our cause. We loved the texture of the “Alman” and the fact it wasn’t dripping with grease. It was fresh, tasty and you could really taste the flavours.

They do, of course, have kebabs and wraps, ranging from a Durum wrap to Doner Kebab, but we are in no doubt that these too will be deliciously cooked and streets ahead of your usual kebab offering. The XL Plates sounded amazing too (not sure we’d ever be able to finish the “Double Trouble”) and the Testo looks perfect for those who like their food a little hotter (it’s packed with jalapenos, naga and chilli sauce).

For dessert there was the choice between freshly made Belgian waffles or Churros. We went for the waffles and we weren’t disappointed. Fresh, topped with milk and white chocolate sauce and sprinkled with icing sugar.

All in all, our visit to Berlin Street wasn’t quite what we expected when we accepted the offer to come along. It was a stylish, calm environment with AMAZING food that was packed with flavour and went far beyond the usual greasy kebab from our student years.

We would highly recommend Berlin Street if you are looking to grab something a bit different to eat, whether it’s to sit in, or as a cheeky takeaway! We can’t wait to go back soon!
