Thought provoking and educational – learn something new in our FREE talks…
Neno Macadamia Trust has been working with Macadamia cooperatives in Malawi to develop a climate smart macadamia agroforestry system. Increasingly we have been able to support this agroforestry system using NMT’s carbon damage mitigation payment system. This has been piloted since 2013 with support from Academics at Imperial College since 2015.
NMT and HIMACUL want to scale up the pilot carbon damage mitigation payment system to reach many more farmers and communities in Malawi. In October 2024 NMT joined a Plan Vivo Accelerator program to work towards achieving an internationally recognised voluntary carbon accreditation.
The talk will outline NMT’s journey, some lessons learnt along the way and their plans for the future.
NMT and Forest of Marston Vale have been partners in the Open University PhD tree planting project, and we look forward to sharing with supporters of the Forest of Marston Vale our work in Malawi with communities of smallholder farmers. Although our tree planting activities are quite different, we believe that there are lessons to be shared between communities in different parts of the world about the benefits and shared values of our tree planting projects.
