Calling all families in Bedfordshire! Looking for a fun, educational, and engaging way to spend a day out? Then head over to Stowe National Trust for an exciting new adventure – the Ickle Owl AR Trail!

What is the Ickle Owl AR Trail?

Developed by Stowe School students in collaboration with Stowe National Trust, the Ickle Owl AR Trail is a free, interactive experience designed for children aged 3-10, but truly enjoyable for all ages. This 16-week summer program (launched May 26th and running until the end of the summer holidays) utilises augmented reality (AR) technology to transform the beautiful grounds of Stowe into a captivating learning journey.

The story revolves around Ickle, a baby Little Owl who has unfortunately fallen out of her nest. Unable to fly back yet, Ickle embarks on a quest to find her way home. Along the way, she encounters other adorable baby animals native to Britain: a playful stoat, a sleek otter, a slithering grass snake, a bumpy toad, and a cunning fox. Each of these AR characters plays a crucial role in Ickle’s journey.

Learning Through Play: Unlocking the Secrets of British Wildlife

Through interactive AR experiences, children will engage with these friendly animals and learn fascinating facts about their habitats, diets, and movement. The AR technology allows children to see these animals come to life on their phone screens, adding an extra layer of excitement and immersion.

Participating in the Ickle Owl AR Trail

Getting started is easy! Simply head to the New Inn Visitor Center at Stowe National Trust (Buckinghamshire, MK18 5EQ) on or after launch day (May 26th, 10am onwards). You’ll be provided with a special paddle, and by downloading a free app on your phone, you can unlock the magic of AR. The app will allow you to see Ickle Owl in 3D and interact with all the other AR animals on the trail.

A Fun Day Out for the Whole Family

Whether you’re a local resident or visiting Central Bedfordshire, the Ickle Owl AR Trail offers a unique opportunity to combine exploration, education, and family fun. It’s a fantastic way to spend a sunny afternoon, encouraging children to get active, explore the outdoors, and appreciate the wonders of British wildlife.
