For those of you who’ve never been, they are a small, family-run restaurant dedicated to providing incredible Italian dishes. Every dish is lovingly prepared by their passionate chef, Alex, who brings 10 years of experience running busy kitchens across Norfolk, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. That experience clearly pays off! He certainly knows his stuff.
The Food at Il Basilico
The menu at Il Basilico is traditional Italian home-cooked food. We were really impressed by the range of options. From delicious seafood to a selection of pizzas. We wouldn’t expect anything less from an Italian restaurant in Bedford, but we were certainly not left disappointed. The food was fresh, well cooked and extremely flavoursome.
The Dessert
We aren’t often ones for dessert when we are out, but we couldn’t resist giving them a go (after seeing another table order).
They were superb. Between us we had traditional coffee tiramisu , Panna Cotta, brownies and ice cream, and Chocolate Fondant.
All were clearly home made and bursting with flavour. While the brownies were a bit rich for our liking (maybe we only need one instead of two) , we can’t recommend the Tiramisu enough.
The Atmosphere
The whole experience was really relaxed and friendly… as you’d expect from an Italian Restaurant run by an Italian family. The staff were polite and friendly without being overly attentive… there is nothing worse than being interrupted constantly to ask how your meal is. Everyone was kind and warm.
The overall vibe was good, with soft music in the background and plenty of room so you didn’t feel squashed in.
We cannot recommend Il Basilico highly enough. Excellent food, friendly staff and a beautiful setting. If you are looking for a traditional, family-fun Italian restaurant in the heart of Bedford, Il Basilico is the place for you!
