This week, we took a trip to Peng Chicken and Burgers, on Pembroke Street, to see what all the fuss was about. We are fortunate in Bedford to have loads of great chicken spots and we are certain it won’t take long for Peng to become one of the town’s favourites.
Peng Chicken and Burgers is the brain child of The Brothers Supper team, who also own The Cock Inn, North Crawley. As soon as we knew who was behind the new venture, we knew the quality was going to be great and our expectations were pretty high.
The Vibe
Despite not being the biggest shop (It’s on the site of the old Vardo plant based cafe), the vibe inside is cool and contemporary. Right down to the neon spray painted chicken and vintage arcade machine.
The Burgers
We had a “Chicken Shop” burger, which was fresh and really flavoursome.
It came with “Peng Fries” which had a great taste and were seasoned really well.
We were impressed with the “chicken shop” price, but it was a much better quality than you get at lots of take-away style shops.
The Chicken
We’ve tried a fair few wings and strips in our time (all in a days work for The Bedford Guide team) and we absolutely loved these. We gave the “Buffalo Badman” strips a go, which come with ranch sauce, celery and chives. We loved them! They were pretty spicy (we’re quite soft) but that didn’t retract from the flavour. It’s clear some real thought has been put in by the Peng Chicken and Burger team to make sure they get that perfect balance.
Final Thoughts
Over all, we were really impressed with what Peng Chicken and Burger had to offer. The staff were really friendly, the food was great and it all came at a reasonable price. They mentioned they’ll soon be holding a “Hot Wing Challenge” so keep an eye on their Instagram page for all the details.
