I decided to try the Sunday Lunch. Roast beef at £21.
I was given a choice of how I wanted the beef cooked and it was tender. Vegetables were well cooked and tasty.
However, the food could have been much hotter. Any colder and I would have sent it back. I think there could have been more quantity for the price. Just 2 roast spuds and only a small amount of gravy. The yorkshire pudding was vastly overcooked and dry to the point of inedible. In all I would agree with what the other reviewers have said. Also not happy about the service charge that was not mentioned anywhere on the menu or website. Overall just about scrapes 3 stars.
First room shower was useless next day room full of ants. Moved to room up stairs. Shower worked, two thirds of the tv channels didn't work. Breakfast nothing to write home about.

Excellent food and service
good service good food good location but they need to fix the fly problem somehow. tables indoors are swarmed in flies because the doors are left open. a zapper or some form of deterrent is needed it’s unenjoyable to eat a nice meal constantly having to swat insects away

Absolutely fantastic place that pleasantly surprised me – both the food and the atmosphere deserve a solid five stars. We ended up at The Kingfisher almost by accident during a weekend trip to Bedford, and it quickly became clear that it was the right choice.
The restaurant has a very cozy interior – warm lighting, wooden accents, and a modern touch. Even though it was quite busy, the vibe was calm and unhurried, which added to the experience. The staff were excellent – friendly, attentive, happy to chat, and very knowledgeable about the menu.
The food… amazing. I ordered the steak, which was perfectly cooked – juicy, full of flavor, and paired with a great sauce. My partner had a locally sourced fish dish – super fresh, aromatic, served with creamy mash and delicate vegetables. For dessert, we shared the classic sticky toffee pudding – hands down one of the best I’ve had. Portions were just right, and the presentation was spot on.
They also have a solid wine list and some great local beers – it’s clear they care about quality across the board. Prices were fair considering the level of service and food.
Highly recommend if you’re looking for something beyond standard pub fare. The Kingfisher is the kind of place I’d happily return to – whether for a relaxed lunch or a quiet evening dinner.
