The Embankment

We often go to Bedford for a walk around the river and we always end up drinking great coffee (Union - my favourite brand) and eating cake here. I can safely say the carrot cake I ate last Thursday was the best I had eaten in ages since a beloved tearoom shut down! So now I'm hooked. I go here with my mum too for lunch as we love their menu. Marvellous place you need to go here the atmosphere is great as are the lovely staff.

The Embankment has been really disappointing the last few visits. The food was dry and poor, the head waiter told our daughter that because of her nut allergy the only food she could order was chips, steak, cottage pie or pork. He said even the fish and chips and cheese toastie were a no-no (even though she has had those before) and that he wouldn’t serve them as it was “against policy”. It wasn’t busy but the service was so painfully slow we effectively ate separately.

Lovely hotel. Only complaint is that the room was very warm. Had the heating off, window open and fan on all night but was still too hot. Fantastic breakfast and great service.

It’s alright

Didn't stay in hotel, had a drink in bar on a lovely sunny day . Staff were very friendly and helpful especially the Australian lady and the geezer with the strides at half mast.

Great location. Bit pricy. Not much options for vegetarians.

Came here for valentine's with my boyfriend, we got seated straight away but it took the waitress 30 minutes to come to our table and ask for starters, and tell us that we had 10 minutes to order everything we'd want that night. The chicken schnitzel and the apple dessert were charred a little but the rest was very delicious. The drinks were very nice too. However at the end of the night we were told that our bill had been paid and that they'll call us later if they needed to charge us. Aside from that, he waitresses were lovely and very efficient. Nice place overall and would recommend coming here.

Excellent location next to the river Ouse. Great service and food. Highly recommended.
