We celebrated a 30th birthday here recently and I can’t rate the place highly enough. Location was beautiful, right by the river. It was such a beautiful walk with swans everywhere.
Room was comfortable and clean. All staff were so friendly and helpful. The food at pen and cob restaurant and breakfast in the morning was so good, probably the best cooked breakfast I’ve ever had at a hotel. At the restaurant the staff bought out a brownie with a candle for our birthday celebration and this was free of charge, this was a lovely touch.
I’d definitely recommend booking the spa, it is so relaxing and although it’s small they don’t overbook it so it never felt crowded.
The only downside is the small car park (you’re not guaranteed a space, we were lucky to get the last one on the day) and it can be quite loud at night due to Christmas parties etc but this didn’t ruin the stay for us as everything else was so perfect. Would definitely return and recommend. Thank you!
Already not happy at all, as arrived for a 2pm check in to be told the room won't be ready until 3pm. We are sat waiting in reception watching them check other people in ahead of us. No drinks were offered while we were waiting. We had also booked a spa session that we will now have to rush to feeling stressed, not the relaxing experience we were hoping for Attitude at reception is best described at blase, as if it happens all the time, just get used to it etc 🤔

What a beautiful hotel. Great location, beautiful rooms, epic decoratoratins for Xmas
Spa was OK. Positives are that is was very clean, but negatives are that many things are broken. Lockers around a third were broken, swimsuit dryers didnt work in mens or womens, the panels to operate some of the massage showers have slightly come away so cannot be used fully. There are holes in the ceiling of the spa where light fittings used to be. The spoon to add more water was half snapped so you can't really use it effectively. The whole place was very hot (though I understand this is be subjective)
We still had a nice time, but there just a few things that coipd easily be sorted to make if feel a little more looked after.

I got married there 50 years ago. It was beautiful then and more beautiful now. I also worked there for a while back in the early 70s. God forbid if you had a run in your stockings. Inspection every day by a wicked mistress. Standards were high. I expect they are higher now. Good job. It’s lovely. Their high tea was excellent.

A beautiful hotel in an ideal location, although parking is hit & miss as it is in a prime riverside spot. Bar & breakfast service is slow & not very well organised for such a busy hotel, but, after a long wait for breakfast items to be sorted, it was very nice.
