The approach to the hotel from the car park is shabby and unwelcoming, the rooms failed to have any tea other then Earl Grey & chamomile despite asking more than once and the breakfast was hugely disappointing and very badly described for Coeliacs.
Reastaurant has a good view of the river for breakfast but breakfast is hugely disappointing, dangerous for Coeliacs and yuo would probaly enjoy McDonalds more.
If you want a decent lunch or evening meal I would suggest you walk over the bridge and go to Nazar Kitchen, 17 High Street, Bedford - Excellent
Pros: clean and comfortable bed; powerful shower; secure parking; pleasant bar area with good choice of drinks; lovely views from the restaurant; good breakfast; friendly service.
Cons: mould in the bathroom; smell of blocked drains as others have mentioned; only a rain shower, no hand shower and no bath; overall vibe of rather tired and in need of an update but as above some areas of the hotel are lovely.
Probably the worst hotel we have stayed in for many years. We stayed in room 44 which is so pokey that there is not even room for a wardrobe, just a hanging rail above a kettle ( I guess as no other space available for the kettle).
Plumbing makes deafening noises at approx 2.30am and again at approx 4.30am. Carpets in common areas are really grubby, and the hotel ( other than reception and breakfast area) looks really tired.
As we had opted to stay there as it was part of a bday celebrations ruling out cheaper options that would probably have been cheaper, we felt really let down.

The rooms felt worn and weary, lacking the charm I had hoped for. The bathroom was in dire need of some TLC, and the windows seemed to howl with the wind, creating an unsettling atmosphere.
To top it off, I was craving a warm cup of tea, but to my dismay, there wasn’t a single drop to be found in the entire hotel.
This was far from the experience I had envisioned.
This place shouldn’t be called a mercure! It is like a jail cell, really run down covered in a lick of paint… checked in, then checked straight back out after seeing the room.

Large airy room, modern bathroom with walk in shower, comfortable beds, excellent breakfast and delicious, well priced food served in the restaurant with beautiful views of the swans and rowers on the river. We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay at the Mercure Bedford Centre

Stayed one night (Sunday) in July. The hotel overlooks the river and the town and our room (808) had good views of both. The bar and restaurant are pleasant spaces and parking was easy, right behind the hotel. Our room had one broken window, taped up, so couldn't be opened. The shower cold water tap didn't work, and the toilet cistern leaked to the extent that by morning there was a small lake extending to the bathroom door (had we been staying more than one night I'd have asked to move room - we reported issues on checkout). The room otherwise was spacious and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was ok, although many of the items had run out by the time we arrived (09:30) and weren't being replaced.
