Dear Elisabet,
I wanted to provide feedback about our recent stay and extend our heartfelt thanks.
You made my group booking process really easy and answered all my questions professionally.
My entire group had nothing but good things to say about Mercure Bedford and everyone said the beds were to die for and so divine to sleep in.
We loved the setting and proximity to the town centre and beautiful views from the riverside rooms. Unsure how I ended up with the smallest room but even then the rooms provided all the room and facilities needed to make the stay comfortable.
Great walks were taken along the riverside and we frequented some local restaurants too.
Your reception team provided very useful information about breakfast and advised which periods were busy, however my group went across the entire breakfast hours and none mentioned any long waits. It was all very leisurely not to mention tasty with plenty of choices.
The staff generally couldn’t do enough to help and assist us and a credit to Mercure Bedford.
Until the next time best wishes
I made a booking using 10,000 points as a Gold member, and while the check-in process was smooth and the room itself was satisfactory, my overall experience was disappointing due to unmet expectations and poor service follow-through.
On the morning of my arrival, I called ahead to inform the hotel of my late check-in and to specifically request an iron and ironing board in the room upon arrival. I was assured that while the room did not come with these items by default, they would be placed in the room before I arrived.
I checked in at 12:00am, only to find that there was no iron or ironing board in the room. I went to reception, they said they would bring one up shortly. After waiting for 20 minutes, a staff member arrived and apologized, stating that no irons or ironing boards were available at all.
This was extremely frustrating, especially considering I had a very early check-out at 5:30am. The purpose of calling in advance was to avoid exactly this situation. Unfortunately, the lack of follow-through on a simple request significantly impacted the quality of my stay.
As a loyal Accor Gold member, I expect better service and attention to requests made in good time.
I booked this “4*” hotel with reasonable hopes after seeing the images online.
But the whole place now appears to be sinking into a state of disrepair.
The walk from the rear car park to the lobby was an endless, narrow path down a slightly musty smelling, 1960’s style, almost derelict corridor.
My wife uses a wheelchair and every corridor in the building seems very narrow.
The front lobby is ok, the person in front of me was asking about making a complaint, which wasn’t the best first impression.
The elevator to our 2 rooms felt as tired as the rest of the building.
The rooms inside were a decent size, but the windows again look like they’re from a building that’s close to being derelict.
The air conditioning did not work, despite me asking for assistance from the front desk.
You get one tiny opening window which looks like it’s about to fall off its hinge.
The beds were fine and the room was clean enough.
I booked a total of 4 rooms as we were there for a wedding in a nearby village and every one of our rooms ran out of toilet paper after the first night.
We resorted to using tissues as we didn’t stick around in the hotel much.
There was an issue with at least one of the lights in each of the 4 rooms.
The extractors in the toilets didn’t work and the windows didn’t open. Though I didn’t want to force them too much in case they fell off their hinges.
Heading to breakfast, my oldest daughter insisted on taking the stairs as she didn’t trust the elevator.
The stairs looked like someone had thrown their suitcase into every wall on the way down.
The double doors into the breakfast hall were a nightmare to open. Not because of heavy quality, but because they were baldly maintained.
The cold part of the breakfast was ok.
But the “hot” breakfast was a mixture between warm and cold.
I promise that that’s not an exaggeration, there were parts of the hot food that had literally gone cold.
Our electronic keycards constantly failed to work and I had to continuously go to the lobby to have them reset.
This was the case for all 4 rooms.
Getting onto the Main Street, there was 2 sets of stairs and a pretty modern wheelchair lift attached to each of these in perfect view of the front desk.
The wheelchair lift could only be operated with the staffs key.
A member of staff offered to help us with this on only one occasion out of the maybe 10 times my wife’s used these stairs.
Every other time she would struggle to walk down them holding onto the rail.
Yes, in the staffs defence, I didn’t request assistance, but it was clear it would have helped. Especially as one member of staff gave it without asking.
I’m honestly not the kind of person who complains about things for fun and I didn’t even bother complaining when I checked out.
But we where all very disappointed with our stay in a hotel which when it was first opened was pretty decent, but not feels like a hostel.

What can I say about this place ...
Well, I checked in early hrs of the morning via somebody else
There were a couple of issues with the pet I was travelling with. However, after a bit of time, i was taken to my room
The room was fresh, clean, and cool
It was spacious, and they had several services too that a lot of hotels do not have, like laundry services
The veiw from my room wasn't the river sadly but it does sit on the river in the middle of the town centre you are close to all amenities you would need
Staff I was dealing with in the morning were polite & helpful
My circumstances were difficult, and a manager, who il call H, went ABOVE AND BEYOND trying to help.
Sadly, cbc council were un responsive and totally unhelpful
Would like to say a massive thankyou to the manager and staff for all there help, patients and kindness during all of this
H, you really were amazing. Thank you for your time today. Me and lyra can not thank you enough
Your soft spokenness an clear communication was a massive help to the situation I found myself in.
